The Times, They are A'Changing!

Posted 10/29/2017 11:48am by Sally Voris .

Led by Jaqui MacMillan, November 4, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the barn at the farm.

From 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., we invite you to join Farm Circle members in decorating the temporary community altar in the barn. Please feel free to bring items (i.e. photos, flowers, or food) to honor a loved one. We will host a pot-luck meal for farm circle members (it is easy to join!).

At 7:30 pm, Jaqui MacMillan, of Drum for Joy,  will again lead a drum circle to honor the ancestors. Jaqui discovered her passion for drumming in the early 1980's and has been teaching private lessons, leading workshops and drum circles throughout the U.S. for over 20 years. Bring a drum if you have one. We will have extra instruments.  Cost: $10/adult; $8/child; $25/family. Register hereDownload a flyer here. (Children 12 and over are welcome.)

A TIME TO BE: A Woman's Retreat last Saturday gave women a chance to share deeply. Our next retreat will be Saturday, December 16 from 10:30 to 1:30 p.m.

GLOBAL SISTERHOOD GATHERING: Our next gathering will be on Saturday, November 18 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Retreat House.

The leaves are coming!  On Mondays and Tuesdays, two local towns deliver bags of leaves to the farm--some 2,000 every year! We make giant leaf piles and use them to improve the organic matter in the soil. Come help us open the bags of leaves! (Just let us know you are coming) and take home some great food!

Seeds for Puerto Rico! I recently learned that another farmer, Tom Simpson of Independence, Virginia, was planning to buy and send seeds to Puerto Rico. Tom's daughter recently lived in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Because Tom is a farmer and his daughter a local, they know what kinds of seeds to send and where to send them. They are hoping to send $1,200 worth of seeds. If you would like to contribute, send a check made out to The Church of the Good Shepherd-GALAX to Tom Simpson, 354 Two Rivers Road, Independence, VA 24348.

Response to Wild Fires in California: I am feeling called to respond to the damage caused by the wildfires in California. I may head to California for some part of the winter and recruit a  young farmer(s) to take on the farm work here. I will keep you posted as my plans become firm.

May we honor our ancestors and receive energy and wisdom from them as we celebrate Halloween and All Saint's Day!

Quiet time is starting....

Hazel is back! She is pregnant and due midwinter. Our thanks to Leah Mack, at whose farm Hazel and Daisy spent the summer with a virile bull.  Now we want to find Daisy, a pure-bred Jersey, a new home. She is pregnant and due mid-spring. Interested? Please contact me. Thanks. Sally
