Make new friends, but keep the old....

"Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold."

Members of the Mesa family and I sang this round as we honored our work together this season. This family of eight helped in the garden most Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. They learned how to garden as they helped me with the farm work. We all ate well! I will miss them and I say, "Fare Well!"

A NEW CHAPTER: As this season ends, I am being led into new territory. The details are sketchy: what is clear is that a new farmer or farmers are needed to manage the farm day-to-day. I ask those who are so moved to pray and imagine that the right people will come to the farm before the start of next season.

LONG-RANGE PLANNING: The dream for White Rose Farm still holds: a place to connect people with the beauty, bounty and balance of nature. An economic development specialist recommends a model featuring overnight stays at the farm, farm experiences and great produce to fulfill the dream of the farm in a  financially sustainable way.

THE NEXT DELIVERY: Our next delivery will be to the Baltimore area on December 10.  We are offering a harvest bounty: a butternut or spaghetti squash, a quart of sweet potatoes and a quart of turnips, potatoes or a Daikon radish for $25. Click here to order your bounty.

In the meantime, our events continue:

A TIME TO BE: A Woman's Retreat:  Our next retreat will be Saturday, December 16 from 10:30 to 1:30 p.m. We gather as the seasons change to honor the rhythms of nature and the rhythms of our lives. Cost? $25 or $15 for first-timers. Click here to register.

GLOBAL SISTERHOOD GATHERING: Our next gathering will be on Monday, December 18 from 7 to 9:00 p.m. at the Retreat House, 4234 Ruggles Road. Renee Deiaco will lead the program and include Radiant Lotus Qigong.

The leaves are coming!  On Mondays and Tuesdays, two local towns deliver bags of leaves to the farm--some 2,000 every year! We make giant leaf piles and use them to improve the organic matter in the soil. Come help us open the bags of leaves! (Just let us know you are coming) and take home some great food!

Feeling the swell of change in the air,

Sally
