Yoga on the Farm

Karen Boger and her friends will lead a "Yoga on the Farm" event on Sunday, June 27th from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Karen wants to create an event to help people connect with the Earth and each other; she approached me about hosting the event at White Rose Farm. It seemed like a perfect match since the farm is focused on connecting people with the Earth, the Universe and each other. Karen taught me that the word "yoga" means "yoke" --to connect.
Karen and her friends will lead participants in varous styles of yoga--and there will be dancing, drumming and a bonfire, weather permitting.
Here is the schedule for the event:
4:00 p.m. Welcome!
4:30 p.m. Ginny Campbell is planning on doing a fun yoga session of "yoga for the beach," including such poses as fish, frog, crash wave, etc. She has done it for her teacher classes to send them off for the summer. Ginny retired from teaching science in Howard County two years ago and decided to take the 200 hr. yoga instructor training and teach yoga.Twenty years ago, she had a back sprain; no drugs or bedrest could cure it The one thing that truly helped was yoga, and it enabled her to backpack 350 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Presently, she is teaching at the Howard County Conservancy, Piney Run Park, and at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
5:30 p.m. Bob McDowell will invite us to a class of standing poses along with a standing sun salutation linking breath with movement and concluding with a meditation on peace. Bob came to yoga frm a background of personal training and pilates instructor and has been teaching yoga for 10 years. He has enjoyed Anusara, Integral, and Therapeutic yoga with an enphasis on stress management and a gentle apporach of welcoming all to experience the joys of yoga.
6:30 p.m. Callie Hildreth will teach salutations to the Sun and Moon. She has been practicing yoga since she was 13 and was certified in yama therapuetics in 2008. She is registered with yoga alliance.
7:30 p.m. Marisa Myers will be introducing her romance with yoga through “Heart Yoga for Beginners”. She has been practicing yoga for approximately 10 years. She received her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Carroll Community College through Yama Studio of Baltimore, MD and became a Registered Yoga Teacher with YogaAlliance in 2009.
8:15 p.m. Karen Boger will be leading us in a dance to bring us in touch with the elements: earth, air, fire and water and then will lead us dancing around the wonderful new fire pit where you can continue to dance or drum to end our day at the farm. Karen has been teaching various fitness related classes in the area for 24 years The last 12 years has been mostly yoga and dance.
There will be music and free time to connect between yoga sessions.
When you get to the farm: take a deep breath, feel your shoulders drop and just "be" in each moment. Enjoy a yoga adventure, bring your own picnic and lawn games, enjoy the warmth of summer, take a walk to the pond, swing in the hammock, rock on the porch.
Most important is connecting--with the Earth and each other. Are you an artist, musician, holistic practitioner or recycling Queen? Do you have a green thumb? Are you a wonderful cook or do you just dabble in someting and want more information? What kind of hats do you wear? (You could actually wear your hat (be creative) or just bring information about what you do--or bring a musical instrument and art to share/create.
Adults and teenagers $5.00; children under 12 free.
